Old Castle Lachlan
Inver Cottage was built by the seventh chief of Clan MacLachlan as a croft and ferryman's cottage. Old Castle Lachlan,
on the shores of Loch Fyne, has been home of Clan MacLachlan since they arrived in Scotland from Ireland over one thousand
years ago and the MacLachlan family still occupies the same land today. As Jacobite sympathisers, the clan suffered heavily
at Culloden and later at the hands of the Campbells, when the Old Castle was besieged and attacked by English soldiers in
1746. The Old Castle is now a listed ruin and there is an easy walk across the bay to see this unique and atmospheric
fortress.
Loch Fyne Walks
For those seeking activity to either work up an appetite or experience the stunning scenery, there is a coastal path over
the river and across the bay to the Old Castle. With its rich natural history and unspoilt shoreline, you may be lucky
enough to catch a glimpse of a seal, an otter or a pod of dolphins out in the bay. The advanced walker can continue along
the coast following a rough path to the site of an old township and ancient chapel.
